Gregorian Chant - Salve Regina

In this week of two Marian occasions - the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on 12/8 and the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe coming up on Saturday 12/12, I figured it was only fitting to post this beautiful version of "Salve Regina" in honor of our Blessed Mother.

December Schedule

Please note the event side bar of the blog, to see the schedule for our December meetings. We will have two formal meetings on the second and third Saturdays of the month, with some great guest speakers (including Our Lady of Peace priest, Fr. Joseph on the contraceptive mentality), as well as our "Salt & Light" prayer at the local abortion mill on the third Saturday of the month (at a special time).

More descriptions about our upcoming topics to come! It's going to be an awesome December for OLOP|YA!

11.14.09 Working for a Living

It's time to talk about the elbow grease that goes into holiness. After all, if it's our purpose, we're going to have to work for it.

The topic for Saturday night is: "The Life of the Laity in the World: Lessons Drawn from the Lay Movements." In other words ... "Working for a Living."

Relic Tour: Oakland

The relics of newly canonized St. Damien of Molokai will be available for veneration at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Alamdea on Friday evening.

At 7:30 p.m. Bishop Cordileone will receive the relics and lead the faithful in prayer. A rare and beautiful opportunity for all of us.

If you can make it, I highly recommend doing so.

St. Damien ...

... pray for us.

Proof

In our day and age, it can be refreshing to take a break from all of the relativism, and bring sound reasoning into the discussion of the existence of God.

This little boy does a much better job at debating, than most adults I have ever spoken with. Then again, he is Albert Einstein.

09.26.09 The Book of Love

We're continuing our OLOP|YA meetings with this week's topic: Why are Catholic and Protestant Bibles different?

To get an idea of what we're speaking about on Saturday, here is the sneak peek for this week:

Each week, we'll be looking at one teaching of the Catholic Church and breaking it down. We'll give a basic catechesis (teaching), points for evangelization and apologetics, and draw from the Cathechism of the Catholic Church, Sacred Scripture, the Saints, the Church Fathers, and current events.

This week, our topic is: The Deuterocanonicals.

It's time to understand the "why" and the "what" of what we Catholics believe.

Confession: Slides

We've spoken about Truth, Tradition, and Authority. We also mentioned that Christ left us the Keys (of the Kingdom). Now, it's time to learn how they're used ...

Not Nothing

If one thing is certain, it is that our lives should not be lived for nothing. What is your purpose? What is your legacy? These men know, and I am grateful for them.

Bloodmoney

The Passion of the Christ. Bella. Some movies are just movies. Other movies change lives. Bloodmoney will be the latter.

Watch the preview, below, and then sign up to show your support here.

"We had a plan that sold abortion. It was called 'sex education'. We would break down their natural modesty, separate them from their parents and values, and become the sex experts in their lives so they would turn to us. We would give them a low dose birth control pill they would get pregnant on, or a defective condom.

Our goal was three to five abortions from every girl between the ages of 13 and 18."

If you are a Catholic living in this culture of death, you need to see this film.

Easy

It can be easy to forget that for some things, time is running out.

Consequences of actions can be forgotten.

For some, however, the consequence of an action, a choice, or an inaction, are simply unforgettable. What, and who, will you stand for?

Speechless

The Theology of the Body has been described as a "theological time bomb".  I think the time has come for it to explode. Its explosions tend to leave others ... speechless.

When a reporter asked Florida Gators Quarterback, Tim Tebow, why he seemed less inclined to act like a ladies' man than his teammates, with the sarcastic question of "Are you saving yourself for marriage, or something?",  what wasn't expected was the simple answer of  "Yes, I am.

The Theology of the Body. Welcome to the Culture of Life.

The Myth: The Math

Some people like to say that the biggest threat to our world is overpopulation. In response, others like to say that those who hold such positions should simply do the math

Here's to unmasking the myth:

07.25.09 "Authority"

Last meeting, we answered the age old question: "What is truth?" More appropriately, however, we realized the question ought to be "Who is Truth?" We came to conclusion that Truth is a Person, not a thing. And, He is still the One.

This week, we'll look at "Authority". To view a sneak peek of what's in store, click on the promo below:

"Stop The Abortion Mandate" Webinar - Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

On Thursday, the OLOP|YA group is invited to take part in a webcast
with Priest for Life, Fr. Frank Pavone. We hope as many of you as
possible will be able to participate.

Details are listed below, though registration for the event is
accessed at http://www.stoptheabortionmandate.com/. Registration also
allows those who are unable to be online at the time of the webcast to
later access a recording of the webcast audio.

Giant Webcast Thursday to Educate and Mobilize Pro-Life Americans
Against Great Dangers of Obama Health Care Bill

Coalition of leaders alarmed that pro-lifers unaware of what is at
stake with "Obamacare"

A coalition of prominent pro-life leaders has arranged a giant, Stop
The Abortion Mandate live webcast for the public this coming Thursday,
July 23, to alert Americans about the great dangers of the Democrat-
proposed health care bill.

David Bereit, a coalition member and leader of 40 Days for Life, told
LifeSiteNews that he is temporarily de-emphasizing his current 40 Days
for Life tasks to concentrate on this issue because of its extreme
importance. He is concerned that pro-lifers are not aware of what is
at stake with the health care bill.

Connie Marshner, a well-known Washington pro-life political organizer,
warned today that "this is the biggest issue since Roe v Wade. This is
not just about funding. Everyone will be forced to have abortion
coverage." Further, she warned, the effect of successful passage of
the Health Care bill will dramatically change the pro-life movement as
we know it "because every doctor and health care worker will be forced
to be involved in abortion."

The pro-life webcast's promotional material states that "Powerful
abortion industry lobbyists and Washington, D.C. bureaucrats have just
launched a massive effort to mandate taxpayer-funded abortions as part
of their proposed trillion-dollar healthcare takeover."

They list four main results of what they call "this abortion industry
power-grab":

Impose one of the cornerstones of the "Freedom of Choice Act" (FOCA)
by stealth
Force taxpayers to fund a huge abortion industry bailout -- something
the majority of Americans oppose, and certainly cannot afford in these
tough economic times

Mandate that virtually every American be forced into a health plan
that includes abortion coverage
Require honorable medical providers to violate their consciences and
perform abortions -- or risk losing their jobs

The one-time-only LIVE webcast event will take place this Thursday,
July 23, at 9 PM Eastern (6 PM Pacific, 7 PM Mountain, 8 PM Central.)

The live webcast, for which there is no charge, will be approximately
70 minutes long and will be accessible even to Internet users with
only a dial-up connection. Participants who register for the event
will be able to listen in on the live audio and submit questions.
During the event, the following nationally known leaders will be
heard:

MIKE HUCKABEE, Former Governor and Presidential Candidate
DR. CHARMAINE YOEST, Americans United for Life
TONY PERKINS, Family Research Council
FR. FRANK PAVONE, Priests for Life
MARJORIE DANNENFELSER, Susan B. Anthony List
DOUGLAS JOHNSON, National Right to Life Committee
TOM MINNERY, Focus on the Family
CONGRESSMAN CHRIS SMITH, U.S. House of Representatives
KRISTIN HAWKINS, Students for Life of America
CONGRESSMAN JOE PITTS, U.S. House of Representatives
DR. RICHARD LAND, Southern Baptist Convention
CARMEN PATE, Point of View Radio Show
DAVID BEREIT, 40 Days for Life

The Webcast organizers state that those who join the webcast will
discover:

The shocking facts about the sweeping legislation that the political
power brokers are trying to ram through before Congress goes on summer
recess...
The devastating implications of the proposed mandates -- facts the
abortion industry doesn't want

Americans to hear...
* Why respected leaders, national organizations, and pro-life
people are joining together in record numbers to challenge this
attempted power-grab...

The exact action steps YOU can take to make a difference at this
crucial moment...

Registration for the event is accessed at http://www.stoptheabortionmandate.com/.
Registration also allows those who are unable to be online at the time
of the webcast to later access a recording of the webcast audio.

Organizers are hoping that 100,000 people will participate in this
very urgent and unique education and action event.

07.11.09 "Still the One"

We've finally finished our study on the Theology of the Body and it's time to tackle our next subject.

This week, our topic is: Truth.

It's time to understand the "why" and the "what" of what we Catholics believe.

06.27.09 Finish Strong

The finish line is finally in sight for our study on the Theology of the Body: Freedom to Love. In fact, our last meeting (on this topic) will be this coming Saturday Night.

We'll  take one more night to discuss how to apply all we have learned to our daily lives and relationships.

Remember, the Theology of the Body is meant to take us to the stars, to make us want to genuflect, and to make the invisible mystery of God totally and completely visible: everywhere

See you Saturday!

03.14.09 Me for Me

On 02.28.09, we continued our discussion on "Freedom to Love: Applying the Basics of the Theology of the Body to Everyday Life, Love, and Relationships." We learned that love requires one righteous super power.

This week, we'll look at what, exactly, we love about a person. And, more importantly, we'll look at what makes them unrepeatable.

Here is the OLOP|YA Sneak Peek for this week.

02.28.09 Never Gonna Give You Up

On 02.14.09, we continued our discussion on "Freedom to Love: Applying the Basics of the Theology of the Body to Everyday Life, Love, and Relationships." We learned that besides saying "Yes", we also have to say "So long, self. " when it comes to love.

This week, we'll look at what that means. And, more importantly, we'll look at how we can do it.  Here's a hint: it involves one righteous super power.

Here is the OLOP|YA Sneak Peek for this week.

02.14.09 So Long Self

On 01.31.09, we continued our discussion on "Freedom to Love: Applying the Basics of the Theology of the Body to Everyday Life, Love, and Relationships." We answered an important question: "What is love?"

This week, we'll ask another important question. Since we know what love is, besides saying "yes", what else do we have to say, before we can find it?

The answer? "So long self.

Here is the OLOP|YA Sneak Peek for this week.

01.31.09 What is Love?

On 01.10.09, we continued our discussion on "Freedom to Love: Applying the Basics of the Theology of the Body to Everyday Life, Love, and Relationships."  We began to see the value of a yes, most especially when it comes to love.

This week, we'll continue to specify and define. So, what is love?

01.10.09 "Yes"

On 12.20.08, we continued our discussion on "Freedom to Love: Applying the Basics of the Theology of the Body to Everyday Life, Love, and Relationships." We saw how society's definition of love and freedom are pretty darn close to "addiction".

This week, we'll look at how God's relationship to us, is one that requires freedom. So, let's look at the "value" of a "yes".

Here is the OLOP|YA Sneak Peek for this week.
